he NHL nominated Karen Ota, founder the Lucky Pucks team and of the Florida Women’s Hockey League, for the Willie O’Ree community award this year. Karen (KO) is the reason why we have a women’s program in south Florida and why Florida as a whole, has a league. The program she created gives us all a space for women to support women through life. She’s brought together such an amazing community of women through hockey, that offer support, inclusion and a sisterhood unlike any other.

The Florida Alliance Girls program is a strong program of elite and national bound teams for girls from 10U to 19U. They have their own website providing all details of their program.

There are three levels of focus for growing the number of girls hockey players in Florida, expanding their development opportunities, collaborating with rinks and associations to create more intra state teams and development opportunities, and a set of elite/National Bound Girls teams under the Florida Alliance program.
